विश्व दूरसंचार दिवस प्रति वर्ष 17 मई को मनाया जाता है. आधुनिक युग में फोन, मोबाइल और इंटरनेट लोगों की प्रथम आवश्यकता बन गई है जिसके बगैर जीवन की कल्पना करना बहुत ही मुश्किल हो चुका है. वर्तमान समय में मोबाइल और इंटरनेट ने इसे बहुत ही आसान बना दिया है. यह दूरसंचार की क्रांति है, जिसकी बदौलत भारत जैसे कुछ विकासशील देशों की गिनती भी विश्व के कुछ ऐसे देशों में होती है.
विश्व दूरसंचार दिवस’ मनाने की परंपरा 17 मई 1865 में शुरू हुई थी, लेकिन आधुनिक समय में इसकी शुरुआत 1969 में हुई थी. ‘दूरसंचार क्रांति’ ग़रीब देश में हुई एक ऐसी क्रांति है, जिसने न केवल देश की छवि बदली बल्कि देश के विकास से विकसित हो रही अर्थव्यवस्था की यह प्रत्यक्षदर्शी रही.
ज्ञात है कि, वर्ष 1881 में सरकार ने अपने पहले के फैसले के ख़िलाफ़ जाकर इंग्लैंड की ‘ओरिएंटल टेलीफोन कंपनी लिमिटेड’ को कोलकाता, मुंबई, मद्रास (चेन्नई) और अहमदाबाद में टेलीफोन एक्सचेंज खोलने के लिए लाइसेंस दिया था. वर्ष 1881 में देश में पहली औपचारिक टेलीफोन सेवा की स्थापना हुई थी.
दूरसंचार क्रांति की बदौलत ही भारत की गिनती आज विश्व के कुछ ऐसे देशों में होती है, जहाँ आर्थिक समृद्धि में इस क्रांति का बड़ा योगदान रहा है. आज हम दूरसंचार के मामले में काफ़ी आगे निकल चुके हैं. थ्री-जी, फोर-जी और फाइव -जी टेक्नोलॉजी पर सवार भारत तेज गति से आगे बढ़ता जा रहा है. इस क्रांति के कारण न केवल अन्य क्षेत्रों में फर्क पड़ रहा है, बल्कि भारतीय किसान हाईटेक हो रहे हैं.
दूरसंचार ने दुनिया को करीब लाया है, फिर भी डिजिटल डिवाइड जैसी चुनौतियाँ बनी हुई हैं. कई देशों में इंटरनेट और संचार सेवाएँ सीमित हैं, जिससे विकासशील समाजों को पूरी तरह से इसका लाभ नहीं मिल पा रहा. यही कारण है कि ITU और कई अन्य संगठन सर्वजन तक डिजिटल सेवाएँ पहुँचाने के प्रयास कर रहे हैं.
इंटरनेट युग की सबसे बड़ी चुनौती अपनी विश्वसनीयता को बरकरार रखना. जिस तरह से इंटरनेट ने हमारे जीवन को सरल बनाने में अहम योगदान दिया है, उसी तरह इसने कई ऐसी समस्याएँ भी उत्पन्न कर दी हैं, जिससे कहीं न कहीं हमारा समाज दूषित हो रहा है.

World Telecommunication Day is celebrated every year on 17 May. In the modern era, phone, mobile and internet have become the first necessity of the people, without which it has become very difficult to imagine life. In the present times, mobile phones and the internet have made it very easy. This is the revolution of telecommunication, due to which some developing countries like India are also counted among such countries of the world.
The tradition of celebrating ‘World Telecommunication Day’ started on 17 May 1865, but in modern times it started in 1969. ‘Telecommunication revolution’ is such a revolution in a poor country, which not only changed the image of the country, but it was a witness to the country’s developing due to the development of the country.
It is known that in the year 1881, the government went against its earlier decision and gave a license to England’s ‘Oriental Telephone Company Limited’ to open telephone exchanges in Kolkata, Mumbai, Madras (Chennai) and Ahmedabad. The first formal telephone service was established in the country in the year 1881. It is because of the telecom revolution that India is counted among the few countries in the world where this revolution has contributed a lot to economic prosperity. Today, we have gone far ahead in the field of telecom. Riding on 3g, 4g and 5g technology, India is moving ahead at a fast pace. This revolution is not only making a difference in other areas, but Indian farmers are also becoming hi-tech.
Telecom has brought the world closer, yet challenges like the digital divide remain. Internet and communication services are limited in many countries, due to which developing societies are not able to get the full benefit of them. This is the reason why ITU and many other organisations are trying to make digital services available to everyone.
The biggest challenge of the internet era is to maintain its credibility. Just as the internet has contributed significantly to making our lives easier, in the same way, it has also created many such problems, due to which our society is getting corrupted somewhere.
