एनसीपी नेता और महाराष्ट्र के उपमुख्यमंत्री अजित पवार चार्टर विमान से मुंबई से बारामती चुनाव प्रचार के लिए जा रहे थे. 28 जनवरी 2026 को बारामती (महाराष्ट्र) में लैंडिंग के समय प्लेन के क्रैश की घटना हुई जिसमें अजित पवार सहित पाँच लोगों का निधन हो गया. इस घटना के बाद प्राइवेट चार्टर विमान पूरी तरह से जल गया. अभी तक यह साफ़ नहीं हो पाया है कि, विमान ने क्रैश लैंडिंग की या कोई तकनीकी खराबी थी. महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने तीन दिनों के राजकीय शोक की घोषणा की है.
लोकसभा और राज्यसभा ने कार्यवाही स्थगित कर उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि दी गई. इस अवसर पर लोकसभा ओम बिरला ने कहा कि उनका योगदान हमेशा याद किया जाएगा.पीएम मोदी ने उन्हें जनता से जुड़ा हुआ नेता बताया. रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने कहा कि अजित पवार महाराष्ट्र के विकास और समृद्धि के लिए समर्पित रहे.
अजित पवार का जन्म 22 जुलाई 1959 को अहमदनगर जिले के देओलाली प्रवरा में हुआ था. उनकी शिक्षा-दीक्षा पुणे में हुई थी. अजित पवार को राजनीती विरासत में मिली थी. उन्होंने अपने राजनीतीक कैरियर की शुरुआत सहकारी चीनी मिलों और बैंकों से की थी जो महाराष्ट्र के राजनीति की रीढ़ मानी जाती है.
अजित पवार वर्ष 1991 में पहली बार बारामती से सांसद चुने गए, लेकिन अपने चाचा शरद पवार के लिए उन्होंने सीट खाली कर दी और राज्य की राजनीति में वापस लौट आए. उन्हें महाराष्ट्र के सबसे कुशल प्रशासकों में गिना जाता है. वे फाइलों को अटकाने के बजाय वे त्वरित निर्णय लेने के लिए जाने जाते हैं. उन्होंने महाराष्ट्र के उपमुख्यमंत्री के रूप में सबसे अधिक बार (5 बार) शपथ लेने का अनूठा रिकॉर्ड बनाया है.
