आषाढ़ महीने की विदाई के साथ ही श्रावण (सावन) का पावन और पवित्र महीने की शुरुआत हो चुकी है. इस पावन और पवित्र महीने में देवों के देव् महदेव की पूजा अर्चना की जाती है. इन्हें भोले भंडारी भी कहा जाता है. एक लोटे जल से भी प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं औघरदानी.
वेद के अनुसार इनका नाम रूद्र भी है, वहीं ऋग्वेद में जहां सूर्य, वरुण, वायु, अग्नि, इंद्र आदि प्राक्रतिक शक्तियों की उपासना की जाती है वहीं ‘रूद्र’ का भी उल्लेख किया गया है. सागर मंथन से पहले भगवान शिव को रूद्र के नाम से जाना जाता था. रूद्र जिन्हें विनाशकारी शक्तियों के प्रतीक के रूप में गौण देवता माने जाते थे, लेकिन सागर मंथन के बाद रूद्र नये रूप में शिव बने.
शिव का विचित्र अमंगल स्वरूप दुसरे देवताओं से अलग है. शिव जो कि, नंग-धडंग, शरीर पर राख लपेटे या मले हुए, जटाजूटधारी, सर्प लपेटे, गले में हड्डियों एवं नरमुंडों की माला पहने, हाथों में त्रिशूल व डमरू, माथे पर एक और आँख, सिर पर चन्द्रमा को धारण किये हुए और उनका वाहन नंदी तथा गण भूत, प्रेत या पिशाच.
श्रावण महीने में सोमवार की विशेष महत्ता होती है. इस महीने के हर सोमवार को भगवान शिव की विशेष पूजा-अर्चना की जाती है. लोग व्रत रखते हैं और शिव मंदिरों में जाकर पूजा करते हैं. साथ ही इस महीने में साधक पवित्र नदी या सरोवरों से जल भरकर शिवलिंग पर अर्पित करते है.
श्रावण मास के दौरान पड़ने वाली शिवरात्रि को महाशिवरात्रि के रूप में मनाया जाता है, जो भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती के विवाह की रात मानी जाती है. इस महीने में लोग कई तरह के व्रत और उपवास रखते हैं, जैसे कि नाग पंचमी, प्रदोष व्रत, हरियाली तीज, रक्षा बंधन आदि.

The month of Sawan has arrived
With the departure of the month of Ashadh, the holy and sacred month of Shravan (Sawan) has begun. In this holy and auspicious month, the God of Gods, Mahadev, is worshipped. He is also called Bhole Bhandari. Aaghardaani becomes happy even with a pot of water.
According to the Vedas, his name is also Rudra, while in the Rigveda, where natural powers like Surya, Varuna, Vayu, Agni, Indra, etc. are worshipped, ‘Rudra’ is also mentioned. Before the Sagar Manthan, Lord Shiva was known as Rudra. Rudra was considered a minor deity as a symbol of destructive powers, but after the Sagar Manthan, Rudra became Shiva in a new form.
The strange ominous form of Shiva is different from other gods. Shiva is naked, with ashes smeared on his body, matted hair, snake wrapped around his neck, wearing a garland of bones and human heads, trident and damru in his hands, one more eye on his forehead, moon on his head and his vehicle Nandi and his Ganas are ghosts, spirits or vampires.
Mondays have special importance in the month of Shravan. On every Monday of this month, special worship of Lord Shiva is done. People observe fasts and go to Shiva temples to worship. Also, in this month, devotees fill water from holy rivers or lakes and offer it on the Shivalinga.
Shivratri falling during the month of Shravan is celebrated as Mahashivratri, which is considered to be the night of the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. In this month, people observe many types of fasts and vrats, such as Nag Panchami, Pradosh Vrat, Hariyali Teej, Raksha Bandhan, etc.
