26 जनवरी केवल एक राष्ट्रीय अवकाश नहीं, बल्कि भारतीय लोकतंत्र और संविधान की आत्मा का उत्सव भी है. यह उस संकल्प की सिद्धि है जिसने एक औपनिवेशिक राष्ट्र को दुनिया के सबसे बड़े और जीवंत लोकतंत्र में बदल दिया है. वर्ष 2026 में हम सभी 77वां गणतंत्र दिवस मना रहे हैं. यह दिन हमें स्वतंत्रता संग्राम की गाथाओं, संविधान निर्माताओं की दूरदर्शिता और लोकतांत्रिक मूल्यों के प्रति हमारी प्रतिबद्धता को भी याद दिलाता है.
15 अगस्त 1947 को भारत स्वतंत्र हुआ, लेकिन 26 जनवरी 1950 तक हमारा अपना कोई स्थायी संविधान नहीं था. बताते चलें कि, ‘गणतंत्र’ बनने की यात्रा वास्तव में वर्ष 1930 में शुरू हुई थी, जब भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस ने लाहौर अधिवेशन में ‘पूर्ण स्वराज’ का संकल्प लिया था. वर्ष 1946 में संविधान सभा बनी और डॉ. भीमराव अंबेडकर की अध्यक्षता में प्रारूप समिति ने संविधान तैयार किया था.
26 जनवरी 1950 को संविधान लागू किया गया. भारतीय संविधान दुनिया का सबसे लंबा लिखित संविधान है, जिसे बनने में 2 वर्ष, 11 महीने और 18 दिन का समय लगा. बी.आर. अंबेडकर और संविधान सभा के सदस्यों ने एक ऐसा दस्तावेज तैयार किया जो न केवल शासन चलाने की विधि है, बल्कि सामाजिक परिवर्तन का एक औजार भी है.
गणतंत्र का अर्थ होता है – गण का अर्थ होता है लोग और तंत्र का अर्थ होता है सिस्टम (व्यवस्था या प्रणाली) या यूँ कहें कि लोगों का शासन.
आज के दिन दिल्ली में भव्य परेड होती है जिसमें सेना, अर्धसैनिक बल, और विभिन्न राज्यों की झाँकियाँ शामिल होती हैं. हर वर्ष किसी विदेशी राष्ट्राध्यक्ष को आमंत्रित किया जाता है, जो भारत की कूटनीतिक नीतियों का प्रतीक है. इस अवसर पर सैनिकों और नागरिकों को बहादुरी के लिए सम्मानित किया जाता है. साथ ही देशभर के विद्यालयों और संस्थानों में तिरंगा फहराया जाता है, राष्ट्रगान गाया जाता है साथ ही सांस्कृतिक प्रस्तुतियाँ भी होती हैं.
गणतंत्र दिवस हमारे लिए गर्व का उत्सव है. यह हमें केवल अतीत की उपलब्धियों की याद नहीं दिलाता, बल्कि भविष्य की जिम्मेदारियों का भी बोध कराता है. साथ ही हमें उन संवैधानिक संस्थाओं और मूल्यों की रक्षा करनी है जिनके लिए हमारे पूर्वजों ने संघर्ष किया था.

Republic Day
January 26th is not just a national holiday, but also a celebration of the spirit of Indian democracy and its Constitution. It is the culmination of the resolve that transformed a colonial nation into the world’s largest and most vibrant democracy. In 2026, we will all be celebrating the 77th Republic Day. This day reminds us of the stories of the freedom struggle, the foresight of the Constitution makers, and our commitment to democratic values.
India gained independence on August 15, 1947, but it did not have its own permanent constitution until January 26, 1950. The journey to becoming a ‘Republic’ actually began in 1930 when the Indian National Congress adopted the resolution for ‘Purna Swaraj’ (complete self-rule) at the Lahore session. In 1946, the Constituent Assembly was formed, and the Drafting Committee, chaired by Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, prepared the Constitution.
The Constitution was adopted on January 26, 1950. The Indian Constitution is the longest written constitution in the world, and it took 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days to complete. B.R. Ambedkar and the members of the Constituent Assembly created a document that is not only a framework for governance but also an instrument of social transformation.
The word ‘Republic’ means a system of government where the power rests with the people.
On this day, a grand parade is held in Delhi, featuring the armed forces, paramilitary forces, and tableaux from various states. Every year, a foreign head of state is invited as a guest of honor, symbolizing India’s diplomatic policies. Soldiers and civilians are honored for their bravery on this occasion. The national flag is hoisted in schools and institutions across the country, the national anthem is sung, and cultural programs are held.
Republic Day is a celebration of pride for us. It not only reminds us of the achievements of the past but also makes us aware of our responsibilities for the future. We must protect the constitutional institutions and values for which our ancestors fought.
