1. शायर अकबर इलाहबादी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1846 को शायर अकबर इलाहबादी का जन्म इलाहाबाद के निकट बारा में एक सम्मानजनक, परिवार में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम सैयद तफ्फज़ुल हुसैन था. अकबर ने अपनी प्राथमिक शिक्षा अपने पिता के द्वारा घर पे ही ग्रहन की थी. उन्होंने 15 साल की उम्र में अपने दो या तीन साल वरिष्ठ लड़की से शादी की थी और जल्द ही उन्की दूसरी शादी भी हुई थी. अकबर की कविता हास्य की एक उल्लेखनीय भावना के साथ कविता की पहचान थी साथ ही उनकी गजल, नजम, रुबाई या क़ित हो उनका अपना ही एक अलग अन्दाज़ था.
2. वीरांगना ऊदा देवी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1857 में वीरांगना ऊदा देवी ने ‘प्रथम भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम’ के दौरान 32 अंग्रेज़ सैनिकों को मौत के घाट उतारकर वीरगति को प्राप्त हुईं थी.
3. शंभू महाराज: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1907 को भारतीय शास्त्रीय नृत्य शैली कत्थक के गुरु तथा नर्तक शंभू महाराज का जन्म लखनऊ, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम कालका प्रसाद तथा पितामह दुर्गा प्रसाद था जो अपने समय के श्रेष्ठ नृत्यकारों में से एक थे. शंभू महाराज का पूरा नाम शंभूनाथ मिश्र था. शंभू महाराज को कत्थक नृत्य की शिक्षा उनके चाचा बिन्दादीन महाराज और उनके बड़े भाई अच्छन महाराज से मिली थी. शंभू महाराज ने नृत्य के अलावा उन्होंने हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय संगीत का भी अध्ययन किया था. उन्होंने विशेष रूप से ठुमरी गायिकी की शिक्षारहीमुद्दीन खाँ से प्राप्त की थी. शंभू महाराज का मानना था कि जिस नृत्य में ले के साथ-साथ भाव महीन हैं वो नृत्य ‘नृत्य’ नहीं हो सकता है. शंभू महाराज को वर्ष 1967 में ‘संगीत नाटक अकादमी फेलोशिप’ और वर्ष 1956 में ‘पद्मश्री’ से सम्मानित किया गया था.
4. दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा के निर्देशक बोमिरेड्डी नरसिम्हा रेड्डी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1908 को बोमिरेड्डी नरसिम्हा रेड्डी का जन्म कडप्पा जिले के पुलिवेंदुला के कोथापल्ली गांव में एक किसान परिवार में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम नरसिम्हा रेड्डी था. रेड्डी बहुमुखी प्रतिभा के धनी होने के साथ अभिनेता, कुशल निर्देशक, सफल निर्माता एवं मौलिक पटकथा लेखक और कवि भी थे. बोमिरेड्डी नरसिम्हा रेड्डी को वर्ष 1947 में पद्मभूषण सम्मान से सम्मानित किया गया था. ठीक उसी वर्ष उन्हें दादा साहब फाल्के पुरस्कार से भी सम्मानित किया गया था.
5. क्रांतिकारी करतार सिंह सराभा: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1915 में क्रांतिकारी करतार सिंह सराभा वीरगति को प्राप्त हुए थे. बताते चलें कि, करतार सिंह सराभा पर हत्या, डाका, शासन को उलटने का अभियोग लगाकर ‘लाहौर षड़यन्त्र’ के नाम से मुकदमा चलाया गया था. जज ने क्रांतिकारी करतार सिंह सराभा को फांसी की सजा सुनाई थी.
6. अभिनेता डॉ. श्रीराम लागू : – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1927 को दिग्गज कलाकार डॉ. श्रीराम लागू का जन्म सतारा ज़िला, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ था. श्रीराम लागू को एक्टिंग का शौक़ मेडिकल की पढ़ाई के दौरान ही लग गया था. उन्होंने एमबीबीएस और एमएस दोनों मेडिकल डिग्री प्राप्त की थीं. डॉ. लागू ने अपने अभिनय कैरियर की शुरुआत थिएटर से की थी. डॉ. लागू ने हिंदी फिल्म में कैरियर की शुरुआत वर्ष 1971 में फिल्म ‘आहट- एक अजीब कहानी’ से की थी. उन्होंने अपने करियर में फ़िल्मों के अलावा 20 मराठी नाटकों का निर्देशन भी किया था. डॉ. श्रीराम लागू ने हिंदी और मराठी सिनेमा की क़रीब साठ फ़िल्मों में अलग-अलग भूमिकाएं अदा कीं थी. डॉ. श्रीराम लागू को वर्ष 1978 में फिल्म ‘घरौंदा’ के लिए बेस्ट सपोर्टिंग एक्टर का फ़िल्मफेयर अवॉर्ड प्रदान किया गया था. वर्ष 1997 में उन्हें ‘कालीदास सम्मान’ से सम्मानित किया गया था. वर्ष  2010 में उन्हें ‘संगीत नाटक एकेडमी फेलोशिप’ से सम्मानित किया गया था.
7. लम्बी दूरी के तैराक मिहिर सेन: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1930 को मिहिर सेन का जन्म पश्चिम बंगाल के पुरुलिया में हुआ था. इनके पिता का नाम डॉ. रमेश सेन गुप्ता तथा माता का नाम लीलावती था. मिहिर सेन कलकत्ता हाईकोर्ट में बैरिस्टर थे. बताते चलें कि, मिहिर सेन अपनी वकालत की तैयारी के लिए इंग्लैंड गए थे, परंतु वहाँ वह इंग्लिश चैनल की तैराकी के प्रति आकर्षित होकर कुछ असफल प्रयास भी किए थे. मिहिर सेन ने 27 सितम्बर, 1958 को इंग्लिश चैनल तैरकर पार किया और इंग्लिश चैनल पार करने वाले प्रथम भारतीय ही नहीं, प्रथम एशियाई बन गए थे. उसके बाद मिहिर ने  श्रीलंका के तलाईमन्नार से भारत के धनुष्कोटी तक की तैराकी  6 अप्रैल, 1966 को आरम्भ कर 25 घंटे 44 मिनट में पूरा किया था. इसके बाद मिहिर ने  24 अगस्त, 1966 को 8 घंटे 1 मिनट में जिब्राल्टर डार-ई-डेनियल(स्पेन और मोरक्को के बीच) को पार किया था. तैराक मिहिर सेन को ‘साल्ट वाटर’ तैराकी में अनोखी दक्षता हासिल थी. मिहिर सेन को वर्ष 1959 को ‘पद्मश्री’ सम्मान से सम्मानित किया गया था. वहीं,  उन्हें वर्ष  1967 में ‘पद्मभूषण सम्मान से सम्मानित किया गया था.
8. अभिनेत्री मीनाक्षी शेषाद्री: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1963 को अभिनेत्री मीनाक्षी शेषाद्री का जन्म सिंदरी (झारखंड) में हुआ था. मीनाक्षी शेषाद्रि का असली नाम शशिकला है.मीनाक्षी के पिता मूल रूप से तमिलनाडू के रहने वाले थे. मीनाक्षी के पिता झारखंड के सिंदरी में एक कारखाने में काम करते थे. मीनाक्षी की शिक्षा सिंदरी (झारखंड) में हुई थी. वो बचपन से ही पढ़ाई में तेज और खूबसूरती में अव्वल थीं. मीनाक्षी ने वर्ष 1981 में जब उनकी उम्र 19 वर्ष की थी तब उन्होंने मिस इंडिया में भाग लेकर ख़िताब अपने नाम कर लिया था. मीनाक्षी शेषाद्रि ने अपने अभिनय कैरियर की शुरुआत वर्ष 1982 में फिल्म पेंटर बाबू से की थी. वर्ष 1980 के दशक में मीनाक्षी बॉलीवुड की सबसे चर्चित हीरोइन्स में से एक थीं. उन्होंने 15 सालों में 70 से ज्यादा बॉलीवुड फिल्मों में काम किया था. 80 – 90 के दशक में बॉलीवुड में राज करने वाली अभिनेत्री मीनाक्षी शेषाद्रि ने अपने कैरियर के पीक पर इंडस्ट्री को अलविदा कह दिया था.
9. त्रिनिदाद एवं टौबेगो के प्रधानमंत्री वासुदेव पाण्डे: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1995 को भारतीय मूल के व्यक्ति वासुदेव पाण्डे त्रिनिदाद एवं टौबेगो के प्रधानमंत्री थे. उनका कार्यकाल वर्ष 1995- 2001 तक था.
10. अभिनेत्री मीरा देवस्थले: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1995 को अभिनेत्री मीरा देवस्थले का जन्म वडोदरा, गुजरात में हुआ था. स्कूली शिक्षा के दौरान मीरा बास्केटबॉल खिलाड़ी थीं और इंजीनियर बनना चाहती थी. मीरा देवस्थले ने अपने कैरियर की शुरुआत टीबी सीरियल ‘ ससुराल सिमर का’ से की थी. उन्होंने कई सीरियल्स सहित वेब सीरीज में भी काम किया है. मीरा देवस्थले को धारावाहिक उड़ान में सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेत्री के लिए स्वर्ण पुरस्कार नामंकित किया गया था.
11. क्रिकेटर सचिन ने क्रिकेट से संन्यास की घोषणा: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 2008 में भारतीय क्रिकेट के महान बल्लेबाज सचिन तेंदुलकर ने इंटरनेशनल क्रिकेट को अलविदा कहा था. बताते चलें कि, आज ही के दिन सचिन तेंदुलकर के सन्यास लेने के साथ ही तत्कालीन कांग्रेस सरकार ने उन्हें भारत रत्न देने की आधिकारिक घोषणा भी की थी. ज्ञात है कि, 40 वर्ष की आयु मे इस सम्मान को प्राप्त करने वाले वे सबसे कम उम्र के व्यक्ति और सर्वप्रथम खिलाड़ी हैं.

1. Poet Akbar Allahabadi: – On this day in the year 1846, poet Akbar Allahabadi was born in a respectable family in Bara near Allahabad. His father’s name was Syed Taffazul Hussain. Akbar received his primary education at home from his father. At the age of 15, he married a girl two or three years his senior and soon got married for the second time. Akbar’s poetry was marked by a remarkable sense of humor and he had his own distinct style whether it was ghazal, nazam, rubai or qaat.
2. Brave warrior Uda Devi: – On this day in the year 1857, brave warrior Uda Devi attained martyrdom by killing 32 British soldiers during the ‘First Indian War of Independence’.
3. Shambhu Maharaj: – On this day in the year 1907, Shambhu Maharaj, the guru and dancer of the Indian classical dance style Kathak, was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name was Kalka Prasad and grandfather Durga Prasad, who was one of the best dancers of his time. Shambhu Maharaj’s full name was Shambhunath Mishra. Shambhu Maharaj received training in Kathak dance from his uncle Bindadin Maharaj and his elder brother Achchan Maharaj. Apart from dance, Shambhu Maharaj also studied Hindustani classical music. He especially received lessons in Thumri singing from Raheemuddin Khan. Shambhu Maharaj believed that the dance in which there is fine emotion along with the le, that dance cannot be ‘Nritya’. Shambhu Maharaj was awarded ‘Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship’ in the year 1967 and ‘Padmashree’ in the year 1956.
4. South Indian cinema director Bomireddy Narasimha Reddy: – On this day in the year 1908, Bomireddy Narasimha Reddy was born in a farmer family in Kothapalli village of Pulivendula in Cuddapah district. His father’s name was Narasimha Reddy. Apart from being a versatile actor, Reddy was also a skilled director, successful producer and original screenwriter and poet. Bommireddy Narasimha Reddy was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the year 1947. In the same year he was also honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
5. Revolutionary Kartar Singh Sarabha: – On this day in the year 1915, revolutionary Kartar Singh Sarabha was martyred. Let us tell you that Kartar Singh Sarabha was prosecuted in the name of ‘Lahore Conspiracy’ after accusing him of murder, robbery and overthrowing the government. The judge had sentenced revolutionary Kartar Singh Sarabha to death.
6. Actor Dr. Shriram Lagoo: – On this day in the year 1927, veteran artist Dr. Shriram Lagoo was born in Satara district, Maharashtra. Shriram Lagoo developed a passion for acting during his medical studies. He obtained both MBBS and MS medical degrees. Dr. Lagoo started his acting career from theatre. Dr. Lagoo started his career in Hindi films in the year 1971 with the film ‘Aahat- Ek Ajeeb Kahani’. Apart from films, he also directed 20 Marathi plays in his career. Dr. Shriram Lagoo had played different roles in about sixty films of Hindi and Marathi cinema. Dr. Shriram Lagoo was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film ‘Gharaunda’ in the year 1978. In the year 1997, he was honored with ‘Kalidas Samman’. In the year 2010, he was awarded the ‘Sangeet Natak Academy Fellowship’.
7. Long distance swimmer Mihir Sen: – On this day in the year 1930, Mihir Sen was born in Purulia, West Bengal. His father’s name was Dr. Ramesh Sen Gupta and mother’s name was Lilavati. Mihir Sen was a barrister in Calcutta High Court. Let us tell you that Mihir Sen had gone to England to prepare for his law practice, but there he was attracted towards swimming in the English Channel and made some unsuccessful attempts. Mihir Sen swam across the English Channel on September 27, 1958 and became not only the first Indian but also the first Asian to cross the English Channel. After that, Mihir started swimming from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanushkoti in India on April 6, 1966 and completed it in 25 hours 44 minutes. After this, Mihir crossed Gibraltar Dar-e-Daniel (between Spain and Morocco) in 8 hours 1 minute on August 24, 1966. Swimmer Mihir Sen had unique proficiency in ‘salt water’ swimming. Mihir Sen was honored with ‘Padmashri’ honor in the year 1959. At the same time, he was honored with the Padmabhushan Award in the year 1967.
8. Actress Meenakshi Sheshadri: – On this day in the year 1963, actress Meenakshi Sheshadri was born in Sindri (Jharkhand). Meenakshi Seshadri’s real name is Sasikala. Meenakshi’s father was originally from Tamil Nadu. Meenakshi’s father worked in a factory in Sindri, Jharkhand. Meenakshi was educated in Sindri (Jharkhand). Since childhood, she was top in studies and beauty. In 1981, when she was 19 years old, Meenakshi participated in Miss India and won the title. Meenakshi Sheshadri started her acting career in the year 1982 with the film Painter Babu. Meenakshi was one of the most popular heroines of Bollywood in the 1980s. 10. Actress Meera Deosthale: – On this day in the year 1995, actress Meera Deosthale was born in Vadodara, Gujarat. Meera was a basketball player during her schooling and wanted to become an engineer. Meera Deosthale started her career with the TV serial ‘Sasural Simar Ka’. He has also worked in many serials and web series. Meera Deosthale was nominated for the Gold Award for Best Actress in the serial Udaan.
11. Cricketer Sachin announces his retirement from cricket: – On this day in the year 2008, the great Indian cricket batsman Sachin Tendulkar said goodbye to international cricket. Let us tell you that on this day, along with Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement, the then Congress government had also made an official announcement of giving him Bharat Ratna. It is known that he is the youngest person and the first player to receive this honour at the age of 40.
