1. बौद्ध भिक्षु अनागारिक धर्मपाल: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1864 में अनागारिक धर्मपाल का जन्म लंका में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम डान करोलिंस हेवावितारण तथा माता का नाम मल्लिका था. उनका वास्तविक नाम डान डेविड था. उनकी शिक्षा ईसाई स्कूल में होने की वजह से यूरोपीय रहन-सहन और विदेशी शासन से भी घृणा हो गई थी. शिक्षा समाप्ति के बाद अनागारिक ने बौद्ध विद्वान् भदंत हिवकडुवे श्रीसुमंगल नामक महास्थविर से पालि भाषा सीखी साथ ही उन्होंने बौद्ध धर्म की भी दीक्षा ली. डान डेविड ने अपना नाम बदलकर अनागारिक धर्मपाल रख लिया. अनागारिक धर्मपाल ने गाँव-गाँव घूमकर विदेशी वस्तुओं के बहिष्कार तथा बौद्ध धर्म का संदेश दिया. अनागारिक धर्मपाल को प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के समय कोलकत्ता में नजरबंद कर दिया गया था. अनागारिक धर्मपाल के प्रयत्नों की वजह से महाबोधि सोसाईटी की स्थापन्ना सम्भव हो पाई थी. अनागारिक धर्मपाल के प्रवचनों से प्रभावित होकर एक विदेशी महिला ने महाबोधि सोसाईटी को पांच लाख रुपया दान दिया था.
2. कलाकार गगनेंद्रनाथ टैगोर: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1867 में कलाकार गगनेंद्रनाथ टैगोर का जन्म ब्रिटिशकालीन भारत में कलकत्ता (वर्तमान कोलकाता) में जोरासांको के ठाकुर परिवार में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम गुणेद्रनाथ टैगोर युवराज द्वारिकानाथ टैगोर के पोते थे.
3. स्वतंत्रता सेनानी वामनराव बलिराम लाखे: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1872 में वामनराव बलिराम लाखे का जन्म रायपुर, छत्तीसगढ़ में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम पण्डित बलीराव गोविंदराव लाखे था. पढ़ाई के दौरान वामनराव की मित्रता माधवराव सप्रे से हुआ था. वामनराव ने रायपुर से मैट्रिक उत्तीर्ण किया था. वर्ष 1900 में जब माधवराव सप्रे ने ‘छत्तीसगढ़ मित्र’ नाम से मासिक पत्रिका का प्रकाशन किया तो लाखे जी उस पत्रिका के प्रकाशक थे. बताते चलें कि, छत्तीसगढ़ का यह पहला अखबार था. वर्ष 1913 में वामनराव ने अपना कार्यक्षेत्र सहकारी आंदोलन को बनाया था. चुकीं उनका उद्देश्य था कि, सहकारिता आंदोलन के द्वारा दु:खी और शोषित किसानों की सेवा तथा सहयोग करना। और उन्होंने इस आंदोलन में जीवन पर्यन्त जुड़े रहे.
4. उपन्यासकार शरतचंद्र चट्टोपाध्याय:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1876 में बंगाली उपन्यासकार शरतचंद्र चट्टोपाध्याय का जन्म हुगली ज़िले के देवानंदपुर गाँव में हुआ था.
5. स्वतंत्रता सेनानी ई वी रामास्वामी नायकर:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1879 में ई वी रामास्वामी नायकर का जन्म पश्चिमी तमिलनाडु के इरोड में एक सम्पन्न, परम्परावादी हिन्दू धर्म की कुरुम्बा जाति में हुआ था. रामास्वामी नायकर ने वर्ष 1923 में हरिजनों के मंदिर प्रवेश को लेकर आत्म सम्मान आन्दोलन चलाया था.
6. स्वतंत्रता सेनानी आई. के. कुमारन:- आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1903 में आई. के. कुमारन का जन्म हुआ था. कुमारन पर राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गाँधी के विचारों का बड़ा प्रभाव था. उन्होंने माही क्षेत्र से फ़्राँसीसियों का शासन हटाने के लिए सफल प्रयास किया था. स्वतंत्रता मिलने के बाद वे वर्ष 1969 में विधान सभा के सदस्य भी चुने गए थे.
7. चित्रकार मक़बूल फ़िदा हुसैन: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1915 में मक़बूल फ़िदा हुसैन का जन्म मुम्बई में हुआ था. मकबूल की माँ का देहांत होने के बाद उनका परिवार इंदौर चला गया था. उनकी प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा इंदौर से हुई थी. मक़बूल को पहली बार राष्ट्रीय स्तर की पहचान वर्ष 1940 के आखरी दशक में मिली थी.
8. अमर चित्रकथा के संस्थापक अनंत पई: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1929 में अमर चित्रकथा के संस्थापक अनंत पई का जन्म कर्नाटक के कार्कल शहर में हुआ था. शिक्षा प्राप्ति के बाद उन्होंने टाइम्स ऑफ़ इंडिया के कॉमिक डिवीजन में आए और फैन्टम एवं मैनड्रेक जैसे कॉमिक्स का भारतीय संस्करण प्रकाशित किया था. उन्होंने इंडिया बुक हाउस के साथ वर्ष 1967 में अमर चित्र कथा श्रृंखला की शुरूआत की. इसका मुख्य उद्देश्य था कि, बच्चों को परंपरागत भारतीय लोक कथाएँ, पौराणिक कहानियाँ और ऐतिहासिक पात्रों की जीवनियाँ को बताना.
9. राजनीतिक दल द्रविड़ मुनेत्र कषगम (द्रमुक): – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1949 को राजनीतिक दल द्रविड़ मुनेत्र कषगम (द्रमुक) की स्थापना हुई थी.
10. वर्तमान प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1950 में और प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी का जन्म वडनगर के एक गुजराती परिवार में हुआ था. उनका पूरा नाम नरेन्द्र भाई दामोदरदास मोदी है. उन्होंने आठ वर्ष की आयु में आरएसएस से जुड़ गए थे. वर्ष 1971 में वो आरएसएस के लिए पूर्णकालिक कार्यकर्ता बन गए थे. वर्ष 1975 में हुए आपातकाल के दौरान कुछ समय तक नरेन्द्र मोदी अज्ञातवास में रहे. वर्ष 2001 में नरेन्द्र मोदी को गुजरात के मुख्यमन्त्री पद पर नियुक्त किया गया. मोदी लगातार 04 बार गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री रहे. बताते चलें कि, नरेन्द्र मोदी भारत के प्रधानमन्त्री पद पर आसीन होने वाले पहले ऐसे व्यक्ति हैं जिनका जन्म स्वतंत्र भारत में हुआ था.
11. स्पिनर रविचंद्रन अश्विन:v – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1986 स्पिनर रविचंद्रन अश्विन का जन्म चेन्नई, तमिलनाडु में हुआ था. रविचंद्रन अश्विन भी अनिल कुंबले की तरह इंजीयरिंग की पढ़ाई छोड़कर क्रिकेट में कैरियर बनाने को प्राथमिकता दी.
12. अभिनेत्री प्रिया आनंद: – आज ही के दिन वर्ष 1986 को अभिनेत्री प्रिया आनंद का जन्म चेन्नई, तमिल नाड्डु में हुआ था. उनके पिता का नाम भरद्वाज आनंद और माता का नाम राधा है. प्रिया ने अपनी प्रारम्भिक शिक्षा हैदराबाद में सम्पन्न की साथ ही ग्रेजुएशन की पढाई लन्दन से की. प्रिया ने अपने मॉडलिंग कैरियर की शुरुआत वर्ष 2008 से की थी. उन्होंने अपने फ़िल्मी कैरियर की शुरुआत वर्ष 2009 में फिल्म वामनं से की थी.

1. Buddhist monk Anagarika Dharmapala: – On this day in the year 1864, Anagarika Dharmapala was born in Lanka. His father’s name was Don Karolins Hewavitaran and mother’s name was Mallika. His real name was Don David. Due to his education in a Christian school, he also became disgusted with the European way of life and foreign rule. After completing his education, Anagarika learned Pali language from a Mahasthavir named Bhadant Hivkaduve Srisumangal, a Buddhist scholar and also took initiation into Buddhism. Don David changed his name to Anagarika Dharmapala. Anagarik Dharmapal traveled from village to village giving the message of boycotting foreign goods and Buddhism. Anagarika Dharmapala was interned in Kolkata during the First World War. The establishment of Mahabodhi Society was possible due to the efforts of Anagarika Dharmapala. Impressed by the sermons of Anagarika Dharmapala, a foreign woman donated five lakh rupees to the Mahabodhi Society.
2. Artist Gaganendranath Tagore: – On this day in the year 1867, artist Gaganendranath Tagore was born in the Thakur family of Jorasanko in Calcutta (present day Kolkata) in British India. His father’s name was Gunendranath Tagore, the grandson of Prince Dwarikanath Tagore.
3. Freedom fighter Vamanrao Baliram Lakhe: – On this day in the year 1872, Vamanrao Baliram Lakhe was born in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. His father’s name was Pandit Balirao Govindrao Lakhe. During his studies, Vamanrao became friends with Madhavrao Sapre. Vamanrao had passed matriculation from Raipur. In the year 1900, when Madhavrao Sapre published a monthly magazine named ‘Chhattisgarh Mitra’, Lakhe ji was the publisher of that magazine. Let us tell you that this was the first newspaper of Chhattisgarh. In the year 1913, Vamanrao made the cooperative movement his field of work. His aim was to serve and support the unhappy and exploited farmers through the cooperative movement. And he remained associated with this movement throughout his life.
4. Novelist Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay: – On this day in the year 1876, Bengali novelist Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay was born in Devanandpur village of Hooghly district.
5. Freedom fighter EV Ramaswamy Naykar:- On this day in the year 1879, EV Ramaswamy Naykar was born in a prosperous, traditional Kurumba caste of Hindu religion in Erode, Western Tamil Nadu. Ramaswamy Naykar had launched the Self-Respect Movement in the year 1923 regarding the entry of Harijans into temples.
6. Freedom fighter I.K. Kumaran:- On this day in the year 1903, I.K. Kumaran was born. Kumaran was greatly influenced by the thoughts of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He made a successful effort to remove the rule of the French from the Mahi area. After independence, he was also elected member of the Legislative Assembly in the year 1969.
7. Painter Maqbool Fida Hussain: – On this day in the year 1915, Maqbool Fida Hussain was born in Mumbai. After the death of Maqbool’s mother, his family moved to Indore. His primary education was from Indore. Maqbool first got national level recognition in the last decade of 1940.
8. Anant Pai, founder of Amar Chitra Katha: – On this day in the year 1929, Anant Pai, the founder of Amar Chitra Katha, was born in Karkal city of Karnataka. After completing his education, he joined the comic division of Times of India and published the Indian edition of comics like Phantom and Mandrake. He started the Amar Chitra Katha series in the year 1967 with India Book House. Its main objective was to tell children traditional Indian folk tales, mythological stories and biographies of historical characters.
