हर वर्ष 18 दिसंबर को अंतरराष्ट्रीय अल्पसंख्यक अधिकार दिवस मनाया जाता है. इस दिन का उद्देश्य विश्वभर में अल्पसंख्यकों के अधिकारों की रक्षा करना और उनके प्रति सम्मान तथा समानता सुनिश्चित करना है.
संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने वर्ष 1992 में अल्पसंख्यकों के अधिकारों से संबंधित घोषणा (Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities) को अपनाया. इसके तहत 18 दिसंबर को अंतरराष्ट्रीय अल्पसंख्यक अधिकार दिवस घोषित किया गया.
अल्पसंख्यक अधिकार दिवस का उद्देश्य भाषा, धर्म, सांस्कृतिक, राजनीतिक, सामाजिक अधिकारों की रक्षा करना. इन समुदायों को समान अवसर और न्याय प्रदान करना. उनके साथ होने वाले भेदभाव और अन्याय के खिलाफ आवाज उठाना.
अल्पसंख्यक समुदायों को समावेशी समाज का हिस्सा बनाने और उनके योगदान को पहचानने का अवसर देता है. सरकारों और संगठनों को प्रेरित करता है कि वे अल्पसंख्यकों के अधिकारों की रक्षा और उनके कल्याण के लिए नीतियाँ बनाएँ. इस दिन को संयुक्त राष्ट्र के सतत विकास लक्ष्यों (SDGs) से भी जुड़ा हुआ है, जो समानता और न्याय पर जोर देता है.
अंतरराष्ट्रीय अल्पसंख्यक अधिकार दिवस हमें यह याद दिलाता है कि हर व्यक्ति, चाहे वह किसी भी समुदाय से हो, उसे समान अधिकार और सम्मान मिलना चाहिए. यह सामाजिक सद्भाव और न्यायपूर्ण समाज की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है.

International Minority Rights Day is celebrated every year on 18 December. The purpose of this day is to protect the rights of minorities around the world and ensure respect and equality for them.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities in the year 1992. Under this, 18 December was declared as International Minority Rights Day.
The purpose of Minority Rights Day is to protect language, religion, cultural, political, and social rights. To provide equal opportunities and justice to these communities. To raise their voice against discrimination and injustice done to them.
It gives minority communities an opportunity to be a part of an inclusive society and recognize their contribution. It inspires governments and organizations to protect the rights of minorities and make policies for their welfare.
