Bihar, a historically and culturally rich state of India, is known for its glorious heritage, vibrant traditions and diverse culture. The history of Bihar is very ancient. This land was the centre of the Magadha Empire in ancient times, where powerful dynasties like the Maurya dynasty, Gupta dynasty and Pala dynasty ruled. This land has given many important personalities to Indian history, including Emperor Ashoka, Chandragupta Maurya, and Aryabhatta. I am home to universities like Nalanda and Vikramshila, where the rays of knowledge spread far and wide and illuminate the world.
My land is adorned with different colours. There are the foothills of the Himalayas in the north, and the plateau region in the south. Rivers like Ganga, Kosi, Son and Gandak irrigate my land and make it fertile. The climate here is monsoonal, which affects my agriculture and lifestyle. Bihar is an agricultural state. The main crops here are paddy, wheat, maize and pulses. Industries are also developing here, among which sugar, textile, and leather industries are prominent.
The culture of Bihar is diverse. People of different religions and communities live in harmony here. Its folk songs, folk dances, and art-crafts are world famous. Madhuban painting, a traditional art of Bihar, is popular all over the world. Hindi, Maithili, Bhojpuri, and Magahi languages are mainly spoken in Bihar. Chhath Puja, the most famous festival here, symbolizes the vibrancy of my culture.
Bihar has many historical and religious sites that attract tourists. Bodh Gaya, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, is a major Buddhist pilgrimage site. Apart from this, the ruins of Nalanda University, which was once a major educational centre of the world, are also located here. I am home to universities like Nalanda and Vikramshila, where the rays of knowledge spread far and wide and illuminate the world. The level of education in Bihar is gradually increasing. There are many prestigious educational institutions here, including Patna University, Bihar University, and Nalanda University.
