देवव्रत महेश रेखे का जन्म महाराष्ट्र के अहमदनगर (अहिल्यानगर) जिले के एक साधारण ब्राह्मण परिवार स में हुआ था. उन्होंने मात्र 5 वर्ष की आयु से ही वेद मंत्रों का उच्चारण करना शुरू कर दिया था और वाराणसी के सांगवेद विद्यालय में बटुक के रूप में शिक्षा प्राप्त की. 19 वर्ष की अल्पायु में, उन्होंने काशी की धरती पर लगभग 50 दिनों तक इस अत्यंत कठिन दंडक्रम पारायण की साधना को पूरा किया.
बताते चलें कि, महाभारत में भीष्म का बाल्यनाम देवव्रत था. उन्होंने पिता के सुख और राज्य की स्थिरता के लिए आजीवन ब्रह्मचर्य और त्याग का व्रत लिया था. यह उपाधि मिलना मात्र प्रशंसा नहीं, यह सामाजिक-नैतिक स्वीकृति है कि उस व्यक्ति का चरित्र, दृष्टि और कर्म साधारण स्तर से ऊपर उठ चुका हैं. युवा बटुक देवव्रत महेश रेखे ने लगभग 200 वर्षों के अंतराल को समाप्त करते हुए, दंडक्रम पारायण की कठिन वैदिक साधना को सफलतापूर्वक पूरा किया और काशी के विद्वानों द्वारा उन्हें ‘वेदमूर्ति’ की प्रतिष्ठित उपाधि से अलंकृत किया गया.
रेखे की यह उपलब्धि इसलिए भी असाधारण है, क्योंकि उन्होंने शुक्ल यजुर्वेद की माध्यंदिनी शाखा के लगभग 2,000 वेद मंत्रों का दंडक्रम पारायण किया. बताते चलें कि, वेद पाठ की कई शैलियाँ होती हैं, जिनमें ‘क्रम’ सबसे कठिन माना जाता है.दंडक्रम इस ‘क्रम’ का ही एक अत्यंत जटिल और दुष्कर रूप है. इस पाठ विधि में, मंत्रों को सीधा और उल्टा दोनों तरफ से एक विशिष्ट, सीढ़ीनुमा पैटर्न में पढ़ा जाता है. इसे निरंतर एकाग्रता और निर्दोष उच्चारण के साथ लगभग 50 दिनों तक लगातार पूरा करना होता है.माना जाता है कि इस दौरान कुल 1 करोड़ से अधिक वैदिक शब्दों का उच्चारण होता है.
ज्ञात है कि, यह साधना इतनी कठिन है कि पिछले लगभग 200 वर्षों में किसी भी विद्वान ने इसे पूर्ण नहीं किया था. अंतिम बार यह सम्मान लगभग 200 साल पहले नासिक के नारायण शास्त्री देव को प्राप्त हुआ था, जिन्हें उस समय ‘वेदमूर्ति’ की उपाधि मिली थी. दंडक्रम पारायण को सफलतापूर्वक और निर्दोष रूप से पूरा करने के बाद, देवव्रत महेश रेखे को ‘वेदमूर्ति’ और ‘दंडक्रम-त्रिविक्रम’ की सम्मानजनक उपाधियों से सम्मानित किया गया. वेदमूर्ति वह महान विद्वान होते हैं, जिन्हें वेदों का गहन, विस्तृत और पूर्ण ज्ञान प्राप्त होता है, जो केवल पाठक नहीं बल्कि वैदिक परंपरा और ज्ञान के सच्चे संरक्षक माने जाते हैं.

At the young age of 19, he completed the extremely difficult practice of Dandakrama Parayan for approximately 50 days on the land of Kashi.
It should be noted that Bhishma’s childhood name in the Mahabharata was Devvrat. He had vowed lifelong celibacy and renunciation for the happiness of his father and the stability of his kingdom. The last such achievement was achieved approximately 200 years ago by Narayan Shastri Dev of Nashik, who was then awarded the title of ‘Vedamurti’. After successfully and flawlessly completing the Dandakram Parayan, Devvrat Mahesh Rekhe was honored with the honorific titles of ‘Vedamurti’ and ‘Dandakram-Trivikram’. A Vedamurti is a great scholar who possesses deep, comprehensive, and complete knowledge of the Vedas, who is considered not just a reader but a true guardian of the Vedic tradition and knowledge.
