The world celebrates an International Day for South-South Cooperation, which aims to promote cooperation in technical, economic, social and political fields among the developing countries of the world (Global South). This day is celebrated every year on 12 September.
The foundation of the International Day for South-South Cooperation was laid in the Buenos Aires Action Plan (BAPA) of the year 1978, which aimed to promote technical cooperation among developing countries. The United Nations General Assembly declared 12 September as the International Day for this cooperation.
In South-South cooperation, member countries, international organizations, academia and the private sector work together and share knowledge, skills, and successful initiatives. The main goal of this cooperation is to help these countries promote mutual self-reliance and collective problem-solving.
South-South cooperation realizes the vision of a global south, where cooperation is above competition, and the definition of development is in accordance with local needs and cultural contexts.
