कार्तिक का पावन और पवित्र महीना चल रहा है.पुरानों के अनुसार, इस पावन और पवित्र महीने को पुण्य मास भी कहा जाता है. पद्म पुराण के अनुसार जो व्यक्ति कार्तिक मास में नियमित रूप से सूर्योदय से पूर्व स्नान करके धूप-दीप सहित भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करते हैं वह भगवान विष्णु के प्रिय होते हैं. पौराणिक कहानियों के अनुसार, कार्तिक स्नान और पूजा के पुण्य से ही सत्यभामा को भगवान श्री कृष्ण की पत्नी होने का सौभाग्य प्राप्त हुआ.
पौराणिक ग्रन्थों के अनुसार भगवान शिव के बड़े बेटे ने पूछा कि कार्तिक मास को सबसे पुण्यदायी मास क्यों कहा जाता है. भगवान भोले नाथ ने ने कहा कि, जिस प्रकार नदियों में श्रेष्ठ गंगा है उसी प्रकार मासों में श्रेष्ठ कार्तिक मास है. भगवान भोले शंकर ने कहा कि, भगवान विष्णु जल में निवास करते हैं और इस महीने में नदियों या तलाबों में स्नान करने से भगवान विष्णु की कृपा प्राप्त होती है.
कार्तिक मास में ही पांच दिनों तक चलने वाला महापर्व दीपावली मनाई जाती है. इस महापर्व की शुरुआत यम का दीपक और धनतेरस से शुरू होती है. ज्ञात है कि, यम का दीपक व धनतेरस का महापर्व कार्तिक कृष्ण पक्ष त्रयोदशी को मनाया जाता है. बताते चलें कि, जैन धर्म के अनुयायी कार्तिक कृष्ण पक्ष की त्रयोदशी को “धन्य तेरस” या “ध्यान तेरस” भी कहते है. बताते चलें कि, भगवान महावीर इस दिन तीसरे और चौथे ध्यान में जाने के लिये योग निरोध के लिये चले गये थे और तीन दिन के ध्यान के बाद योग निरोध करते हुये दीपावली के दिन निर्वाण को प्राप्त हुये. तभी से यह दिन धन्य तेरस के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ.
आप सभी लोग धनतेरस की शाम को घर के बाहर मुख्य द्वार पर और आंगन में दीप जलाने की प्रथा है. क्या आप जानते है इसके पीछे क्या कारण है…?
बताते चलें कि इसके पीछे एक लोक कथा है और उसी लोक कथा का अनुसरण आज भी हम सभी करते हैं. पौराणिक काल में हेम नामक एक राजा थे और उन्हें दैव कृपा से उन्हें पुत्र रत्न की प्राप्ति हुई. राजज्योंतिषिय ने जब बालक की कुण्डली बनाई तो पता चला कि बालक का विवाह जिस दिन होगा उसके ठीक चार दिन के बाद ही वो मृत्यु को प्राप्त होगा. जब राजा को इस बात का पता चला तो राजा हेम बहुत दुखी हुए और राजकुमार को ऐसी जगह पर भेज दिया जहां किसी स्त्री की परछाई भी न पड़े.
दैवयोग से एक दिन एक राजकुमारी उधर से गुजरी और दोनों एक दूसरे को देखकर मोहित हो गये और उन्होंने गन्धर्व विवाह कर लिया. विवाह के पश्चात विधि का विधान सामने आया और विवाह के चार दिन बाद यमदूत उस राजकुमार के प्राण लेने आ पहुंचे. जब यमदूत राजकुमार प्राण ले जा रहे थे तो उसकी नवविवाहिता पत्नी का विलाप सुनकर उनका हृदय भी द्रवित हो उठा. यमराज को जब यमदूत यह कह रहे थे उसी वक्त उनमें से एक ने यम देवता से विनती की हे यमराज क्या कोई ऐसा उपाय नहीं है जिससे मनुष्य अकाल मृत्यु से मुक्त हो जाए ?
दूत के इस प्रकार अनुरोध करने से यम देवता बोले, हे दूत अकाल मृत्यु तो कर्म की गति है, इससे मुक्ति का एक आसान तरीका मैं तुम्हें बताता हूं सो सुनो. कार्तिक कृष्ण पक्ष की त्रयोदशी रात जो प्राणी मेरे नाम से पूजन करके दीप माला दक्षिण दिशा की ओर भेट करता है उसे अकाल मृत्यु का भय नहीं रहता है. यही कारण है कि लोग कार्तिक कृष्ण पक्ष त्रयोदशी की शाम को घर से बाहर दक्षिण दिशा की ओर दीप जलाकर रखते हैं.

Let us tell you that the followers of Jainism, the Trayodashi of Kartik Krishna Paksha are also called “Blessed Teras” or “Dhyana Teras”. Let us tell you that, Lord Mahavir had gone to the third and fourth meditation on this day for yoga nirodha and after three days of meditation, he attained nirvana on the day of Deepawali while doing yoga nirodha. Since then this day became famous as Blessed Teras.

The creature who worships in my name on the Trayodashi night of Kartik Krishna Paksha and offers a lamp garland in the south direction does not have the fear of premature death. This is the reason why people keep a lamp outside the house in the south direction on the evening of Kartik Krishna Paksha Trayodashi.
